HISTORY OF CELEBRATING REPUBLIC DAY

India gained independence from the British rule on August 15, 1947. At that time, there was no permanent constitution of the country.  This was the first draft of the Indian Constitution presented to the National Constitution by the Drafting Committee on 4 November 1947. The first draft of the Indian Constitution was signed by the National Assembly on 24 January 1950 in both versions, i.e. English and Hindi.

Thereafter, the Constitution of India came into effect on Republic Day, i.e. 26 January 1950. Since then, on January 26, India is being celebrated as Republic Day. On this day, India was declared as a full Swaraj country and in this way, we started celebrating this day as the anniversary of the full Swaraj Day.

The Constitution of India gave Indian citizens the right to choose their government. Dr. Rajendra Prasad took oath as the first President of India in the Darbar Hall in the Government House. India has a great history behind celebrating Republic Day.

IMPORTANCE OF CELEBRATING 26 JANUARY

Republic Day symbolizes true feelings for independent India, where the Indian President hovers our national flag and grand military parade, in which the display of military equipment including a variety of other programs is performed. The Indian National Flag is a tricolor in nature, which has horizontal streaks, i.e. the upper saffron, middle white and below are divided into equal proportion to dark green and represent a wheel (Navy blue color, with 24 spokeswomen) Sarnath Lion Capital of Ashok.

India is a country where people from different cultures, societies, religions, and languages live in harmony with one another. The freedom of our country is really a matter of great pride because it does not have to say that it was achieved after many years of struggle and great sacrifice.

Therefore, this day is celebrated every year so that Indian people can feel proud to be born on this multi-cultural land. Republic Day is celebrated in a very colorful manner to make the celebrations memorable and special for every Indian citizen. The national anthem is sung by people participating in the festival. This festival brings together all the Indian people and creates a sense of national pride in our country.
